This narrative encompasses many moments where he tries to persuade his readers to believe what is not only taking place in the story, but to plead with his audience to understand what inhuman conditions they were subjected to. At the very beginning he explains how he not only does not know his age but he does not know who his father is and barley knows of his mother. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "An American Slave By Fredrick Douglass" essay for you Create order He describes these moments where people are beaten to satisfy not only their need to punish the slaves, but to satisfy their sexual lust. I want to steer away from those heart wrenching moments and highlight the more positive, inspirational, and courageous moment of his tale. In chapter 7 Frederick sets forth on his journey of learning to read and write. In learning these things he had hopes to gain freedom from his life long sentencing of enslavement. He lived with the Hugh family for 7 years. The mistress of the house, Sophia, whom was kind to him in the beginning, was a soft hearted woman who was always helping another. When Frederick was around the age of 8 Sophia started to teach him his alphabet, and to read small words. When Mr. Hugh became knowledgable of what was taking place he told Sophia to cease the lessons with fear that he would become disobedient. Over time she became cruel and stone hearted. She began to become irate when she would find him with a news paper that she at one time encouraged him to read. He always had to account for his time spent in other parts of the home if he had been out of range for longer than he should have. When Frederick was asked to go out on errands he would always bring along a book and bread with him. He winds up meeting local poor white boys who in exchange for the bread teach him how to read. They sympathies with him agreeing that he no more deserved to be enslaved than them. As time went by he learned to write as well. He started by copying the letters from the ships at the yard. L A S F were his first letters. He came across some boys and had a writing contest with them to see who could write the best. He practiced on walls, fences, and the ground. He started copying from the dictionary and would write in Thomas Aludrs discarded books. He would copy the sentences between the empty spaces of the pages. This moment of the story and ones like this are the moments that make a difference, they show that he overcame the challenges he was faced with and persevered. He had many sections in which he described traumas but what really persuaded me was the fact that he not only succeeded, he never asked for pity. He did not allow his state of momentary deep depression fold him, he made something out of nothing.

Accounting for Managers Governance-Legislation Update
Question: Describe about the Accounting for Managers of Governance-Legislation Update. Answer: Accounting is the essential part of managing an organization, it is defined to be the process of recording the financial statement, recording, classifying, verifying, summarizing, interpreting and communicate the financing information of the company. The primary purpose of the paper is to define the main function of accounting in a business enterprise, it will explain the relationship between accounting and management in an organization. Many business organization uses different methods of accounting to perform their financial management, the study will elaborate on various methods of accounting and the reason as to why different companies may prefer to use them as part of their financial management strategies. Problem 1 Depreciation methods Depreciation is part of the accounting in operating business organization, it elaborated on the functionality of tangible assets in relation to their economic life within the organization. Depreciation is defined to be the permanent and continuing reduction in quality, quantity as well as the values of the asset (Brigham, and Ehrhardt, 2013). The main purpose of depreciation in accounting is to indicate on how much the company assets have been used and how the remaining value could be utilized in order to achieve the company objective by increment in profitability making. The economic gains of company A have been realized steadily over the four-year period by adopting the straight-line method of depreciation and this will be the same in the later years. Since returns of an asset cannot be forecasted over its useful life, it has enabled company A to make financial decisions appropriately both in the short-run and in long-run (Titman, Keown, and Martin, 2015). From its inception company B has been making little gains because of the high depreciation charged on its assets. Since they adopted the double down method most of the depreciation expense has been charged in the few years of its operation. Ultimately gains will be realized afterward (Crosby, 2015). Choice of depreciation method depicts the financial returns of a company. It is important to scrutinize if either the asset is to be used proportionately in its lifespan or it will be used often in the initial period. Double declining method results to low gains in income of a company its initial stages thereby making companies adopt the use of straight line method. Company financial statements Financial statements contain detailed information which creditors and investors rely on to make investment choices. It requires knowledgeable know how to value risk in order to predict the economy in the market (Shafer, W.E., 2015). The three financial statements are income statement, balance sheet and statement of cash flows. Depreciation on income statements are dealt with as expenditures and are not to be ignored as they are deducted. They are shown together with the expenses incurred during that financial year. The preceding year depreciation is summed up with the current expenses in order to maintain accumulated depreciation that is equivalent (Henderson, Peirson, Herbohn, and Howieson, 2015). The asset value in the statement of financial position is displayed against liabilities and equity gains. Depreciation is arranged in the same column with assets. Depreciation causes capital assets to depreciate in value so they are arranged in the same column with assets (Wuttke, Blome, and Henke, 2013). The book value obtained enables one to have a clear look at the value the asset has lost. When cash flow budget is prepared depreciation is considered to be a reduction from expense which shows no effect in the financial statement. Depreciation becomes an allowable expense when taxable income is calculated and this reduces taxable income the company is to pay (Shafer, W.E., 2015). Therefore, depreciation is an essential element which has create impact to the financial recording of the company, the depreciation balances are treated as the expenses in financial statements of the company. They should be well embraced as well as considered to be vital factor of determining the companies financial performance (Weil, Schipper, and Francis, 2013). Problem 2 Capital finance of the company The achievement of organizational goals is determined by the capital financial structures which are installed by the management. The capital financial structure is an essential part of company management which obligates shareholders and the top management to discuss in order to make a perceptive conclusion while designing the capital structure of the company (Peirson, Brown, Easton, and Howard, 2014). The financial objectives of business vary depending on the size of the firms, large firms requires a large capital structure in order to achieve its primary objectives. On the other hand, small business enterprises are considered to require small financial and capital structure as the basis of accomplishing its prime missions (Colombo, Cumming, 2016). Therefore, the financial structure is defined to be the balance between all the enterprise liabilities and its equalities, implies the use of equity and liabilities while evaluating the financial position of the company, basically, it comp rises the equities and long-term liabilities of the company Kangaroo Express Company is one of the companies which has the potential of becoming big and large business company. The company is a family owned business organization with strong wave of increasing in its sizes by implementing the substantial financial and capital measure which will require the collaboration between the top management and the stakeholders (Crosby, 2015). The top management should play their role by advising the shareholders on the alternative ways of financing the company in order to increase its capital structure. Smart leasing Kangaroo Express Company capital structure is well determined, the company is comprehended to have a large percentage of assets, and 60% of the company capital is non-current notes. Smart leasing comprises leasing out the company properties to be used by other operating companies. The leasing rate is considered to be high compared to loans rates which are offered by the banking institution. However, risks limit the operations of the company in relation to the leasing process (Henderson, Peirson, Herbohn, and Howieson, 2015). Reduction in return for equity holders is one of the associated risks which may affect the operation of the company. Angel equity Angel equity is defined to be the process which the management of a business entity allows investors to invest into their company by offering a good amount of money. It is one of the best financing measures which the company needs to adopt in order to get more profits as well as increasing its capital structure and size (OFallon, and Butterfield, 2005). Kangaroo Express Company should adopt the angel equity which offers flexible business agreement between the investors and shareholders. Consequently, angel equity may also not be considered as an alternative financing approach since some of the investing activities may be costly and well as other investors becoming dubious about the company. Home equity loans Home equity loans is an alternative method of increasing the capital to the company, home equity loans allows the company to access finance from the equity they have built in their home (Peirson, Brown, Easton, and Howard, 2014). One of the advantages of home equity loan reduces the company liabilities and thus increases it profit making. Payment default is one of the primary risks associated with home equity loans. Problem 3 Role of ethics in managerial accounting Business ethics are defined to be set of principles which govern the behavior of the company in terms of its management, it governs the moral aspects of the business organization. Ethics in business applies the general aspects of business conducts as well as its relevancy in conducting the entire business enterprise (Colombo, Cumming, 2016). Decision making in accounting requires the essentiality of embracing the significant ethics which will be used as the basis for developing a collective decision-making process. The role of ethics in managerial accounting is used in determining the business financial operations and thus becoming the pertinent aspect in accomplishing the organization goals and objectives (Ferrell, O.C., and Fraedrich, J., 2015). Misconceptions Misconceptions is defined to be the process making an opinion which is not consistent because of misunderstanding. Ethics in relation to managerial accounting implies how the financial department of an organization can handle unethical issues which may arise as a resulting misunderstanding (Harrison, and Van der Laan Smith, 2015). The managerial accountants have to work in accordance with the legal procedures as well as the financial management frameworks which allow the company to achieve its strategic goals and objectives. Function Managerial accounting ethics plays a prime role in ensuring that all individual who are involve in collecting accounting data performs their function in accordance to the moral standards of the company . Financial departmental employees who fail to report information or on the other hand use the internal financial information of the company for personal gain can create serious legal situations for businesses (Harrison, and Van der Laan Smith, 2015). Company stakeholders and shareholders often require the data and information, whether which is positive of negative in order to obtain the relevant result while making financial managerial decisions. However, the managerial accounting ensures that all the employee who works in the company are trusted with a sensitive business information (Ferrell, O.C., and Fraedrich, J., 2015). Problem 4 Company financial statements Financial statement of are considered to be the essential records that show the financial operation of the business organization. While selecting the business partners as well as developing a business agreement, one of the key areas which need to be observed is the company operations with the reflection of the financial statements (Brigham, and Ehrhardt, 2013). Managers and shareholders require financial statements to settle on essential business strategies which will enhance the accomplishment organization core values. The budgetary examination is then performed on these announcements to furnish administration with a more itemized comprehension of the figures. These announcements are likewise utilized as a component of management's annual report to the stockholders (Brealey, Myers, Allen, and Mohanty, 2012). Planned speculators put forth utilization of budgetary expressions to survey the suitability of putting resources into a business. Budgetary investigations are regularly utilized by speculators and are set up by experts, along these lines giving them with the premise to settling on investment decisions (Amiram, Bozanic, and Rouen, 2015).Financial statements are in some cases not reasonable, important, solid and practically identical. Reported resources, liabilities, and value may not be specifically identified with an organization mone tary position. The mandate of the organization executive is to observe the performance of the intended supplier as stated by the trusted financial records. Suppliers in the market might be the reason as to why business organization fails to operate fully in the market. Suppliers in their records have shown a brilliant financial performance which is the key factors of accepting their products and services, only to realize that the information provided by records is manipulated to (Brealey, Myers, Allen, and Mohanty, 2012). Some of the suppliers may fail to provide accurate information regarding their operation in the market, this limits their operation as well as those of key players in the markets. While judging the suppliers, their consistency in the supply of products and services in relation to their performance for the past years will be the basis of judging their operations. To avoid the cash flow problems, auditing products and services of the company will reduce the insufficient margins which arise as a result of low prices to goods and services provided (Arnold, 2014). After auditing the prices of products and services, suppliers and the organization management should evaluate their performance by embracing their concern towards increasing their profitability making (Christensen, Floyd, and Maffett, 2015). The audit opinion whether the supplies have better financial performance and have a consistency of supplying the appropriate products, this will be used to determine the whether they could attract the additional capital growth and development (Arnold, 2014). In your opinion, is Shylock presented as a villain or a victim of the society he lives in Essay Example
In your opinion, is Shylock presented as a villain or a victim of the society he lives in Paper In my opinion Shylock has been presented as a victim but at times, he is made a villain because he has been treated so unequally that he has no other option besides applying the bond on Antonio. Society was very different 400 years ago. Shylock was living in the Elizabethan era, where anti-Semitism was very open. The majority of people at that time were Christians who were against Jews and treated them inhumane, because the Christians knew that it is the Jews who were responsible for the murder of Jesus Christ and they are still in the process of completely eliminating Christianity. Shylock was one of the many Jews who were subjected to brutality and insults throughout their lives. Shylock wasnt ever treated compassionately from the start, he wasnt considered as a human and we get to realise that when Shylock (in Act 3 Scene 1, Page 35, Line 54) asks Antonio: I am a Jew. Hath not a Jews eyes, hath not a Jews hands, organs dimensions, senses, affections, passions We will write a custom essay sample on In your opinion, is Shylock presented as a villain or a victim of the society he lives in specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on In your opinion, is Shylock presented as a villain or a victim of the society he lives in specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on In your opinion, is Shylock presented as a villain or a victim of the society he lives in specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer Antonio has subjected Shylock to insults and inequality all his life, one instance is at the beginning when in Act 1 Scene 3, Shylock reviews what Antonio has said to him: And spit upon my Jewish gabardine You call me a misbeliever, cut-throat dog Hath a dog money, is it possible? In this scene we have the immediate view of a generous money-lending Jew, because Shylock reviews all of the insults he has been subjected to and, still lends him the money. For example in Act1 Scene3, Shylock says: Shall I bend low, and in a bondmans key Fair sir, you spat on me you spurned me such a day, another time you called me a dog; and for these courtesies Ill lend you thus much money Antonio, still hasnt realised his mistake, and is still not grateful to Shylock, Antonio replies with rage: I am as like to call thee so again, to spit on thee again, to spurn on thee too. We feel sympathetic towards him, because he has faced misfortune throughout the play. Lorenzo, who is Antonio and Bassanios friend, eloped with Jessica. Jessica, was Shylocks only hope, he had no other family. Not only did Jessica run away with one of Shylocks enemies, she stole an absurd amount of money from her father. Solanio puts on an impression of Shylock in Act 2 Scene 8 he says: My daughter! O my ducats! O my daughter! Fled with a Christian! O my Christian ducats We might think that Shylock here is more worried about his ducats than his daughter, but on the contrast, we also immediately have the anti-Semitism view because Solanio Salerio are Christians and they arent reliable witnesses because they hate Jews too. They use abusive language like: As the dog Jew They also use words such as: Confused, Strange and Variable, these words are unnatural Elizabethan language. Jessica steals Shylocks dead wifes ring and sells it for a monkey, when Shylock hears about this from Tubal he cries and says he wouldnt sell that ring for a forest of monkeys. Tubal says in Act 3 Scene 1: One of them showed me a ring that he had of your daughter for a monkey Shylock replies: Out upon her, thou torturest me Tubal. It was my turquoise; I had it of Leah when I was a bachelor. I would not given it for a wilderness of moneys. We know how much Shylock is sad because he says torturest which is a very effective word, and we are left with no other option besides feeling sympathy towards him. We then come to know about Antonios shipwreck, which raises tension. Before the court trial begins, we come to know that even the Duke is Anti-Semitic because his words are: Go one and call the Jew into the court Shylock still wants to pursue the bond and the Duke doesnt yet convince him. The reason Shylock gives for pursuing the bond is: If you deny it let the danger light, upon your charter (Line 38). He says that if you dont give me this bond, your law and government systems credibility will go down. Your charter will not mean anything. This is where we realise that Shylock has been forced into becoming a victim because of all the Anti-Semitic pressures faced upon him. At the court scene, Portia arrives as a lawyer in order to save Antonios life. Antonio helped make their wedding possible, so it is payback time. We also know from the beginning that even Portia is Anti-Semitic as she says in the trial scene: Which is the merchant here? And which the Jew? At the court the first thing Portia asks Shylock to do is to be merciful: Then must the Jew be merciful. Shylock replies: My deeds upon my head, I crave the law, the penalty and forfeit of my law Shylock demands that the justice should be fair. Portia tells Shylock that he is right in saying that justice should be served, but Shylock can only a pound of flesh. A pound of flesh, to be by him cut off Portia wanting to defeat Shylock for the last time says: Are there balance here to weigh The flesh Shylock replies with glee, because he realises that all the insults and brutality he has been subjected to will now end in front of all of his enemies he is surrounded by. I have them ready Portia now realising that she has lost this time but not the next, she says: Have by some surgeon Shylock, on your charge, to stop his wounds lest he do bleed to death She says, in order to pursue your bond, you may remove his pound of flesh, but there should be a surgeon to prevent Antonio from bleeding to death. We feel even more sympathetic towards Shylock when he is [Aside] and says: These be the Christian husbands. I have a daughter- Shylock being extremely kind and compassionate to Portia, we begin to realise that Portia should stop discriminating Shylock by calling him a Jew. Shylock replies in these manners: Most rightful judge Most learned judge Portia finally humiliates Shylock in front of all of his enemies he is surrounded by, by saying: Take then thy bond, take thou pound of flesh, But in the cutting it, if thou dost shed One drop of Christian blood, thy lands and goods He is told that he cannot spill even a drop of blood whilst taking the flesh out. Shylock couldnt get his initial bond, but still knowing that he is treated unfairly he asks for his principle bond: Shall I not have barely my principal? Without any mercy, Portia denies it again. Thou shalt have nothing but the forfeiture Portia then tells Shylock that he is an alien in Venice and he is not a citizen, therefore he his breaking the law by trying to take the life of a citizen: If it be proved against an alien, He seek the life of any citizen And due to that all of his money will go to Antonio and the Venetian state, also he can be executed on the Dukes will. Shall seize one half his goods, the other half The Duke pardons it and says: I pardon thy life before thou ask it. Antonio says that Shylock can keep the other half of his wealth, but at the same time forcing him into Christianity, and should leave all of his wealth to his treacherous daughter Jessica and Lorenzo. I am content- so he will let me have the other half in use-to render it upon his death unto the gentleman that lately stole his daughter. Two things provided more, that for this favour, he presently become a Christian, The other, that he do record a gift here in the court of all he dies possessed unto his son Lorenzo and his daughter Shylock has been treated inhumane in front of all of his enemies and at the end he is asked my Portia if he is happy. Shylock has no power, had no power, and has no free will and his life ruined forever. As such that Shylock prays for his leave, because he doesnt feel well. I pray you give me leave to go from hence, I am not well. Send the deed after me, and I will sign it At the end in Act 5 all the Christians are cheerful and they celebrate in Belmont. Concluding I would say that Shylock is mainly treated as a victim of the society he lives in. The society he lives in is to be blamed. Anti-Semitism existed 400 years ago and it was a very open issue. In the Elizabethan times Jews were not treated humane because Christian beliefs quote that the Jews killed Jesus Christ. We can also say that Shylock is a victim because he wanted to murder Antonio, but then, wasnt the Duke given the right to execute Shylock just because he wasnt a citizen and was pursuing a bond, which involved murder. We do not tend to realise how badly Shylock is treated, all we notice is how eagerly Shylock wants to murder Antonio. Shylock wants to murder Antonio for many reasons: Shylock wants to avenge Antonio, because it is he who treated him inhumane, it is he who subjected him to brutality and insults throughout his life, It was part of the bond that if Antonio loses his ships a pound of flesh will be promised to Shylock. Antonio over-confidently agreed to the bond, not knowing that over-confidence always makes you lose. At the end, the Christians won, because they were the majority and he was one, he couldnt say anything against the final decision.

Leadership - Essay Example This trait would be most useful in an athletic department especially in the area of delegation of authority, for example, in the selection of a team captain. The team captain would have to be a person who has a very high achievement drive. The rest of the players look up to the captain of the team as their natural leader bath in the field and as a team. The captain must therefore have demonstrated high levels of effort both during practice and in competition situations. He must be able to rally the team into action through his/ her natural charisma as this acts as a booster of team morale (Arvey, 2006). The captain must have a demonstrable high ambition for the team and other team members so that he is a holistic team player. High energy levels in the captain must be evident as this will serve to revive the team when they are undergoing a slump during competitions or practice sessions. Personal initiative is very desirable in a team captain as this will make him a very effective situ ational leader on the field and also off-field (Yukl,

Governance Regulation and Ethics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
Governance Regulation and Ethics - Essay Example The main conflict which is presented in the film is based on consumer protection, specifically in relation to the environment. This occurs first when the families file a claim about the company putting toxic waste into the environment, specifically which leads to leukemia and other health problems among the consumers. As the story line continues, the problems with health from the waste and lack of environmental concern continue to increase. The issues relate to several problems and questions of what the stand point should be with the company as well as what is required in terms of responsibility and obligation to potential consumers through the environmental concerns that are approached. The concept of relationships with consumers is the first problem which is related to the film. The consumers are unaware of the health problems and there is not disclosure of what is occurring with the environmental concerns or health, leaving each of the individuals susceptible to becoming ill. The right to know is followed by questions of moral responsibility, corporate obligation and the commercial context, all which are violated. The lack of morality is based on the known factors which attribute to the toxic waste and how this will affect those in the region. This is followed by corporate obligations that are not followed, specifically which are inclusive of corporate social responsibility which is ignored with the only focus on production and money that needs to be made within the environment. The commercial context follows this with the advertising of the company becoming negative as well as unfair consumer contracts based on misleading concepts of the rules and regulations being followed within the company (Nelson, 2005: 96). The concept of consumer protection within the business as well as other legalities relate to this impact the business and consumers in several ways with the expectations with the business. In any business, the marketing and advertising, as well as t he brand identity, is expected to have a specific perception and attitude about the company. The advertisements, which represent a positive identity with the consumers, are furthered with an understanding that the business acts in specific ways within society. When the context is broken, consumers, stakeholders and others believe that there is a violation of the relationship which has been created. Since this is communicated as a promise from the company, specifically in relation to the strategies and implementation within the company, it causes the relationships to not be protected and leads to false pretenses with the business. The corporate responsibility and consumer protection then intertwine with the understanding that the relationship is built on the corporation having the responsibility to care about the consumer (Werther, Chandler, 2011: 105). The concept of consumer protection and false advertising is followed by other barriers that are often created with consumer relation ships. This is related to the stakeholder agreements, investments and other negotiations that have taken places with businesses. Often, these lead to more profits as well as expectations which are taken. If the communication and relationships with others involved in the

Biography of Chanakya (Kautilya)
Biography of Chanakya (Kautilya) INTRODUCTION ââ¬Å"The extraordinary thoroughness of Kautilyasââ¬â¢s work, its eminent inductiveness and practical character, its unflinching logic, heedlessness of adventitious moral or religious standard and its wide range of subjects and interests gave it a unique combination of features..â⬠[1] -D.R.Bhandarkar In Indian history, the centuries to come and that passed by, are recorded many great persons and legendary characters who shaped time through their extraordinary deeds and their excellence in every skill. But among of them, Kautilya may be the only one personality who has been respected and accepted as a brilliant person not only by Indian scholars but also western Scholars too. Kautilya was great political philosopher and thinker. We have been described as a great teacher, shrewd statesman, devoted patriot, deep thinker, ruthless administrator, master strategist, selfless ascetic, ideal philosopher and true saint.[2] He is called all-rounder because he got mastery in all the branches of knowledge. He was well versed in commerce, warfare, Politics, Economics and Vedas. He lived around the third century B.C. but even today his ideas and principles show relevancy and applicability in the present day society. He is a historical milestone in the making of India. Kautilya is the greatest person with wisdom and knowledge. He is regarded pioneer in the field of Economics. The credit of establishment of Mauryan Empire goes to the foresight and knowledge of Kautilya. He was a key advisor and councilor of Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of Mauryan Empire. ââ¬Å"This empire was not merely composed of a number of unrelated districts brought together under single sceptra; it was a real unit based on common government which everywhere not only established the kingââ¬â¢s authority but the public good.[3] Kautilya was chief architect of his rise to power so he is called kingmaker too. A man full of vision; he was always prepared for the worst. He had the guts to speak his heart out even in front of the rulers. He himself lived such a life, refusing all adornments, compassion towards the poor and evil to deceit when needed which shows some of his good characteristics of nature. Kautilya was a professor at the University of Takshashila which is located near Peshawar in Paki stan. He was the first man to envision the first Indian Empire by unification of the various small kingdoms in the Indian subcontinent. His prominent works are Nitishastra, Chanakya Niti and Arthashastra. Among these, Arthshastra was most important. He considered economic activity as driving force behind the functioning of any political action. Kautilya was a true thinker who bridged the gap between knowledge and vision. For Kautilya, good governance was supreme. LIFE SKETCH OF KAUTILYA ââ¬â Unfortunately There is not certainity about the time period of the Kautilya So, details of his birth and life are not dependable and we have to rely on tradition. The expected period of the Kautilya is from 350-283 B.C.E. There are very few real historical facts about his birth and death except that he helped Chandragupta to mount the throne, to strengthen his empire and to unite the Indian states for fighting against Alexander of Macedonia around 327 B.C.E. Chandragupta Maurya established the Mauryan Empire in the year 321 B.C.E. Kautilya was probably born around 350 B.C.E. This shows that Kautilya was junior contemporary of Aristotle (384-322 B.C.E.). There is no proof that Kautilya was affected by Aristotleà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã
¸s idea. Some historians have ââ¬Å"questioning about Kautilyaà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã
¸s existenceâ⬠. His place of birth is not assured. Some say that he got the name Chanakya because he was born in China. The Buddhist mentions his birthplace as Takshashila while Jaina scripture mention his birthplace as Chanak in Gola district of South India. According to one version, birthplace of Chanakya was Dravida so one of the Chanakyaà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã
¸s various names was Dramila. Some believes his birthplace was Patliputra. However, Kautilyaà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã
¸s birthplace will continue to remain a disputation. Kautilya had two other two names ââ¬â Chanaka and vishnugupta. As he was born in the village of chanaka, he was called chanakya , Dr. Ganapati Shastri is of the opinion that he was born in the ââ¬Ë kutalaââ¬â¢ gotra. Hence he was named as Kautilya. His parents gave him the name of Vishnugupta at ââ¬Ënamkaranââ¬â¢ ceremony.[4] When Kautilya was born, he had blessed with the full set of teeth, which showed that child will become king or emperor. Rishi Chanak was a Kautilyaââ¬â¢s father who was learned Brahmin. He was a teacher teacher so he knew the importance of education. He started teaching his son Kautilya in his early age. In his early age, Kautilya was well versed in Vedas; though he memorized them completely at early age, At that ancient time, the Vedas were considered as the toughest scripture to study. He was also taught mathematics, geography and science along with religion. Right from his childhood, Kautilyaà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã
¸s wisdom and shrewdness was visible and effective. His favorite subject was Politics. Kautilya had seen very difficult circumstances from his childhood. His father,Chanak was erudite, decent and self respected Brahmin. He opposed injustice or immortal deeds. The fraudulent and arrogant king Dhannanda did not like him naturally. The king disparated the rightness of Chanak so he harassed Chanakà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã
¸s family for fake reasons. Chanak was put in prison by the king. He died in prison. No one raised a voice against the injustice with Chanak. Kautilya was a very little boy that time. He was extremely sad because of his fatherà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã
¸s death and injustice happened with h is family. After his fatherà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã
¸s death, his life was also in danger. So he left Patliputra by taking an oath that he would return and fight against injustice and take revenge against Dhannanda. Kautilya had his education at a famous university of Takshashila which was very reputed one at that time. Being a Brahmin of strong determination anf strong will, he thought to take revenge from Nanda King of Patliputra. He left the capital humiliated and he went to search for a warrior. On his way, he came across the young Chandragupta. He found in the latter a promising young man and started the campaign for his installation on the throne of Magadha. Their First attempt Proved to be a failure. However eventually, Chandragupta regrouped his forces, overwhelmed the borderstates and launched onslaught on the capital. The wicked king- Dhannanda best of Nanda dynasty wa skilled in 322BC. Thus a new dynasty-Maurya was established with Chandragupta Maurya enthroned as the king of Magadha in 321 BC and reigned upto 298 BC. The credit for this victory goes to kautilya widely accepted name whose diplomatic skill and encyclopaedic knowledge of administration enabled Chandragupta, his pupil not only to triumph against the Nandas but also consolidate his empire.[5] [1] Vishnoo Bhagwan, Indian Political Thinkers,Atma Ram Sons publications,p.30 [2] Retrieved from http://www.chanakya.com/chanakya.htm on 20 Mar.2014.11.28PM [3] Paul Masson-Oursel et al: Ancient India and Indian Civilization,p.37 [4] Sankaracharya : Commentary on Kamandaka [5] Vishnoo Bhagwan, Indian Political Thinkers,Atma Ram Sons publications,p.31

Online shopping vs. Traditional Shopping Essay
Shopping is an exciting part of American culture, whether you participate or not. With a boost from cyberspace, a person can buy just about anything without leaving the couch. Both types of transactions coexist with one another, yet window-shopping is a distinctly different experience from Internet shopping. Shopping is no longer as simple as it used to be, especially if youââ¬â¢re picky. Whether itââ¬â¢s web-based or face-to-face browsing, there are some benefits and downfalls to both methods that differentiate the two, even though they each accomplish a common goal. When shopping traditionally there is a limitation to some extent, whether itââ¬â¢s a variety of size, color, brand, or availability. Shopping at the store can be convenient, yet frustrating. Finding what you need takes patience and sometimes a little help. Also, depending on the demand, a store may not always have a product in stock. Even more irritating is finding what you need, just not the right size. Each of these situations makes online shopping the more appealing option. When shopping on the Internet, there are endless options and variety to choose from. Online customers can search for any product; browse by category, color, size, brand, etc.; or just take a peek at everything in a matter of minutes. Another appealing factor to Internet shopping is the availability to choose from additional colors, styles, or sizes because of the mass compiling of inventory. Additionally, a benefit from buying from huge online retailers is that pricing may be more competitive because it is coming from the direct or discount supplier, which minimizes the middlemen. Lastly, and most obviously, customers shopping over the web have no geographic limits. A person can enjoy any good around the world without having to go the distance to retrieve it, which makes Internet shopping so unique. Despite the fascination with online shopping, there is only so much an Internet connection and domain can do for you. Browsing a websiteââ¬â¢s product listing is in no way comparable to being able to physically touch, see, smell, or feel a product when making a purchase. Looks can be deceiving, as well as luring descriptions. No matter what angle its viewed from, pictures only provide a two-dimensional detail of a product in the most attractive lighting, with the happiest people enjoying it, or the best looking personà modeling it. Making a decision based on these intentionally placed marketing methods can alter a consumerââ¬â¢s perception of the true quality of a product, more than likely resulting in dissatisfaction. What makes traditional shopping more appealing in this aspect is that a consumer is more than likely aware of what their buying into, rather than blindly buying into a false belief. A person is capable of fully experiencing the true quality of a product without a bias on itââ¬â¢s presentation. By witnessing a product in material form, consumers are given the opportunity to make a judgment without having to dodge marketing obstacles. A personââ¬â¢s five senses assist in getting to the bottom of the misunderstanding created by deceptive showcasing techniques and assure the best decision. Likewise, when deals in cyberspace seem too good to be true, they usually are. A personââ¬â¢s susceptibility to scam is increased when shopping on the Internet. The occurrence of personal information theft, such as credit cards, is alarmingly high. When shopping traditionally, a person is not faced with as high of chances of this happening. Due to the existence of many untrusted or sketchy websites, a person may not want to be so quick to hand over method of payment. Also, even if a website is trusted, there is always room for error, especially when a computer is the main coordinator of the order processing. The possibility of receiving the incorrect item from the supplier is a risk that is taken each time a person resorts to Internet shopping. Making Internet order returns are an even trickier task, whereas returning an item to a traditional store is just as simple as the way you bought it. Internet merchandise returns can take several weeks to process and refunds can come in exchanges, full refunds, or store credit, adding to the inconvenient complications. Nevertheless, nobody usually enjoys spending long hours at the store, making a trip to a mall out of town, or doing anything generally shopping related. Traditional shopping can take a lot of energy and effort, inflict stress, and lead to impulse purchases. All of these results are undesirable and easily avoided through Internet shopping. With a computer or smartphone, a person has access to millions of online stores as well as websites to favorite traditional stores. All of these options are available from theà comfort of any home (with internet of course.) You can shop on your own time rather than the hours of operation of a traditional store. Heck, you can even shop naked if you desire. Not only can using this alternative make shopping convenient and easy, shipping of products is extremely affordable and sometimes free. Money and time usually spent on transportation and food when shopping formally can be saved, on top of the savings one can find online. Finding deals on the web is just as easy, if not easier, than traditional shopping. Also, buying gifts and other personal items can be done in privacy/secrecy when necessary. In conclusion, both methods of shopping are full of differences and similarities that make them unique in some approach. Traditional shopping allows for inclusion of the five senses, quick and safe transactions, and a more formal experience that includes the customer; whereas Internet shopping is convenient and easy, provides increased option, and helps to save money. Due to the variation in execution, both methods have an appropriate time and place to occur, yet in the end, internet shopping and formal shopping are interchangeable, despite the discrepancies.

Habits and Traits of Luna Moth, Actias luna
Although its colorful and large, this is no butterfly! The luna moth (Actias luna) is a giant silkworm moth, and although common throughout most of its range, its still a thrill to find one. What Do Luna Moths Look Like? The name luna means moon, apparently a reference to the moon-like eyespots on its wings. Theyre sometimes called moon moths, or American moon moths. These night-flying moths are also most active when the moon is high in the sky, so the name is doubly apropos. Luna moths are strongly attracted to lights, so you may see them flying around your porchlight during their breeding season (spring to early summer in the northern part of its range). When the sun rises, they often come to rest nearby, so look for them around your home in the morning. Both male and female luna moths are pale green, with long, curving tails trailing from their hindwings and light eyespots on each wing. Early season broods in the south will be darker in color, with an outer margin marked in deep pink to brown. Later southern broods and all northern broods tend to be paler in color, with an almost yellow outer margin. Males can be differentiated from females by their prominent, feathery antennae. Luna moth caterpillars are lime green with magenta spots and sparse hairs, and a pale stripe running lengthwise just below the spiracles. They reach a length of 2.5 inches (65 mm) in their final instar. How Are Luna Moths Classified? Kingdom - AnimaliaPhylum - ArthropodaClass ââ¬â InsectaOrder ââ¬â LepidopteraFamily - SaturniidaeGenus ââ¬â ActiasSpecies - luna What Do Luna Moths Eat? Luna moth caterpillars feed on the foliage of a variety of host trees and shrubs, including walnut, hickory, sweetgum, persimmon, sumac, and white birch. Adult luna moths live only a few days, just long enough to find a mate and reproduce. Because they dont feed as adults, they lack a proboscis. The Luna Moth Life Cycle The luna moth undergoes complete metamorphosis with four life stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. After mating, the female luna moth oviposits on leaves of the host plant. She may produce as many as 200 eggs in total. The eggs hatch in about one week. Luna moth caterpillars feed and molt through five instars in 3-4 weeks. Once its ready to pupate, the caterpillar constructs a simple cocoon of leaves. The pupal stage lasts about 3 weeks in warmer climates. The luna moth will overwinter in this stage in colder regions, usually hidden under the leaf litter near the host tree. The luna moth usually emerges from its cocoon in the morning, and is ready to fly by evening. As adults, luna moths live just one week or less. Interesting Behaviors of Luna Moths Luna moth caterpillars employ several defensive strategies to fend off predators. First, their coloration is cryptic, so they blend in with the foliage on the host tree and make it difficult for predators to see them. Should a bird or other predator approach, they will often rear up and attempt to scare the attacker away. When that doesnt work, the luna moth caterpillar may snap its mandibles to make a clicking sound, thought to be a warning of whats coming ââ¬â vomit. Luna moth caterpillars will regurgitate a foul-tasting liquid to convince potential predators that they are not at all tasty. Adult luna moths find their mates using sex pheromones. The female produces the pheromone to invite males to mate with her. Males will travel considerable distances to locate a receptive female, and mating typically occurs in the hours just after midnight. Where Do Luna Moths Live? Luna moths are found in and near deciduous hardwood forests in eastern North America. Their range extends from Canada south to Texas and Florida. Sources:à Actias luna ââ¬â Luna Moth, Bugguide.net.
